ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — A U.S. man is again challenging an Aruban court ruling that ordered him detained as a suspect in the presumed death of a travel companion, his lawyer said Tuesday.
An appeal was filed Monday with the Court of First Instance of Aruba seeking the immediate release of Gary Giordano, attorney Michael Lopez said.
The appeal also asks that the court consider releasing Giordano at least temporarily pending any trial, Lopez said in a statement. He did not disclose the arguments that he made in the appeal and did not respond to a request for additional comment.
No date has been set for any hearing or a decision on the request.
