SA: Rann pledges tough year for criminals
ADELAIDE, Jan 11 AAP - South Australian Premier Mike Rann has resolved to make 2004
the toughest year yet for criminals.
Mr Rann has promised to introduce wide ranging changes to criminal law when parliament
resumes next month.
In an Australian first, Mr Rann said he would introduce legislation to improve the
chances of convicting parents or carers responsible for baby deaths.
Other changes include increased penalties for violent offences against children, the
elderly and disabled and tougher guidelines surrounding the release of prisoners …
